Karate Wales Coaches Complete DI Training

On Sunday May 27th, eight Karate Wales Karateka, representing five groups within Karate Wales attended a full day Disability Inclusion training workshop with Disability Sport Wales.
This further increases the number of DI trained Karate Wales Instructors and Coaches.

The tutors; Jo Coates- McGrath and Mark Foster covered the entire spectrum of coaching individuals with disabilities and special needs.

Karate Wales is committed to first class Coach Education and this was another step in ensuring Karate Wales remains at the forefront of shaping the future of Karate in Wales.
Karate Wales and members of it's Board have led the way in giving Karateka with disabilities and special needs opportunities to participate in Karate and to compete.
The Welsh Karate League has breathed fresh life into this important area of Karate and it's nine events this season has categories for athletes with Special needs and wheelchair users.
Rob Copeland; Karate Wales' Executive Officer, was awarded the Sport Wales Coach of the Year Award back in 2008 for his work in developing opportunities for Karateka with disabilities and special needs, which included establishing the very first competitive opportunities in Wales.
It was the late, great, Shihan Ritchie Noblett of the Welsh Bushi-Kai who was the first tournament organiser in Wales to open his doors and gave Rob 100% backing in this project.
It is only since the formation of Karate Wales and the Welsh Karate League that this important and sadly neglected area of Karate has at last been allowed the status it deserves in Welsh Karate.
